The nice thing about this Benfica shirt is that it uses an adidas template that I haven’t seen on another team. Other than that, there isn’t much else to say about the shirt apart from the fact that the light blue sponsor looks horrible.
That year, Benfica only managed to win the League Cup. However, this was overshadowed by Benfica finishing 3rd in the league and missing out on Champions League qualification.
Benfica had made some good purchases that season, with Jose Antonio Reyes, Fabio Coentrão and Pablo Aimar all signing. It was also the last time that Benfica weren’t managed by Jorge Jesus, who took over the following year.
